A Burnley labourer. Ormerod Halstead (58), of Rydal-street, this afternoon injured his right hip and shoulder when he fell distance of 12 feet from the second floor of a warehouse in Cannon-street, near Burnley Centre, where demolition work is in progress, It is stated he overbalanced when his clothing caught a nail in a piece of wood.6

Research Note: MARRIAGE
On Saturday, at the Haggate Baptist Chapel, the marriage of Miss Ellen Taylor, Atkinson-street, and Walter Halstead, of Cross-street, was celebrated, Mr. J Ogden performing the ceremony. Mr. Herbert Robertshaw acted as best man, while Annie Halstead was the bridesmaid. After the nuptials the happy party adjourned to the bandroom for tea, and later on dancing, games, &c., were indulged in.6 He was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 14 Stamford Place, Clitheroe, Lancashire. He was married, a Loom Sweeper and Jobber, born 4 August 1889. He was also an ARP Warden.7
Walter's death was registered in 1951 in the Clitheroe registration district.8

In the census of 5 April 1891 at 13 North Street, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 3 born Burnley, the son of Susannah HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 31 March 1901 at 38 Granville Street, Briercliffe, Lancashire, he was listed as a Cotton Weaver, aged 12 born Burnley, the son of Susannah HALSTEAD.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 9 Cross Street, Briercliffe, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Cotton Weaver, aged 23 born Burnley, a Boarder of John William MOORE.4
Benjamin married Dora HIRST in 1912 at the Register Office, Burnley, Lancashire.5 Benjamin HALSTEAD travelled to St John, Newfoundland on 14 March 1913. He travelled on the Virginian from Liverpool and was a Weaver aged 24.
Benjamin died on 1 January 1919 at Bromley, Kent, at the age of 30. He is commemorated in the All Saints, Orpington, Kent Churchyard Extension.6,7

Arthur died on 22 July 1917 at Pas de Calais at the age of 33. He is commemorated on the Noeux-Mines Communial Cemetery, France. He was serving with the Canadian Field Artillary.10

Research Note: IN HIGHLAND REGIMENT.
Mr. and Mrs.Halstead of 23, Richard-street, Burnley, have been officially notified of the death of their eldest son, Pte. Edgar Halstead, of the 10th Battalion Highland Infantry. The notioe stated that he was killed in action on September 25th at a plaoe not stated in France. Pte. Halstead, who was 28 years of age, formerly worked as a twister at Messrs. Thornber's Elm-Street Shed. He enlisted on August 29th last year, and had been at the front eight months, escaping any injury up to the time he was killed. He was a widower, and, leaves one little daughter. He lived with his father and mother, and was very well, known and highly respected in the district. In his younger days he was connected with Westgate Congregatinal Church, being brought up in the Sunday School there, but latterly he had sometimes attended St Margaret's Church.9

In the census of 5 April 1891 at 55 Danes House Road, Burnley, Lancashire, she was listed as aged 35 born Lothersdale, Yorkshire, the wife of George Henry HALSTEAD (a Corporation Store Keeper, living with his wife Sarah A, daughter Emma, sons Fred, Albert and Hartley.)2
In the census of 31 March 1901 at 55 Danes House Road, Burnley, Lancashire, she was listed as aged 45 born Lothersdale, Yorkshire, the wife of George Henry HALSTEAD (a Corporation Store Keeper, living with his wife Sarah A, daughters Emma, Graec and Sarah, sons Fred, Albert and Hartley.)3
In the census of 2 April 1911 at 55 Danes House Road, Burnley, Lancashire, she was listed as aged 54 born Loothersdale, the wife of George Henry HALSTEAD (a Store Keeper, living with his wife Sarah Ann, son Hartley and daughters Emma, Grace and Sarah (married 27 years - 7 children - 6 living.)4) She was listed in the census of 1 January 1920 at Middlesex, Massachusetts: 137 Shaw St, Lowell Ward 3: 64y.

In the census of 5 April 1891 at 55 Danes House Road, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 5 born Burnley, the son of George Henry HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 31 March 1901 at 55 Danes House Road, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Cotton Weaver, aged 15 born Burnley, the son of George Henry HALSTEAD.3
Fred married Mabel HIRST, daughter of Henry HIRST and Esther KIPPAX, in 1909 at Registrar Attended, Burnley, Lancashire.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 8 Nicholl Street, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as a Cotton Weaver, aged 25 born Burnley, the son-in-law of Henry HIRST.5 Fred HALSTEAD witnessed the marriage of Harry POLLARD and Sarah HALSTEAD on 7 September 1923 at Baptist Chapel, Angle Street, Burnley, Lancashire.6,7 Fred HALSTEAD was the executor of Sarah Ann HALSTEAD's estate granted on 27 March 1934 at Lancaster, Lancashire; £1,475 4s 9d.8 He was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 21 Wimpole Street, Burnley, Lancashire.
