     Socrates Urquhart was also known as David HOLSTEAD.

Research Note: Whlist his birth certificate states that his name was Socrates Urquhart he is clearly on the census with the family in 1871 and 1881 as David. We can only assume at this point in time that it was the family name for him.
Socrates Urquhart HOLSTEAD was born on 23 July 1861 at Daubhill, Rumworth, Lancashire. Father Thomas HOLSTEAD, a Cotton Spinner - mother Ann HOLSTEAD formerly HOLLOWS - registered on 12 August 1861 by Ann HOLSTEAD, mother.1,2 He was the son of Thomas HOLSTEAD and Anne HOLLOWS. In the census of 2 April 1871 at Daubhill, Rumworth, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 9 born Runworth, the son of Thomas HOLSTEAD.3 In the census of 3 April 1881 at 46 St Helens Road, Rumworth, Lancashire, he was listed as single, an Operative Cotton Spinner, aged 19 born Rumworth, the son of Thomas HOLSTEAD.4

In the census of 6 June 1841 at Hulme Street, Little Bolton, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 4 born Lancashire, the assumed son of William HALSTEAD.1 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Little Bolton, Lancashire, he was listed as a Cotton Counter Pane Weaver, aged 14 born Little Bolton, the son of Ann HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 7 April 1861 at 18 Barlow Road, Little Bolton, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Turner, aged 23 born Bolton, the son of Ann HALSTEAD.3

In the census of 30 March 1851 at Dean Village, Rumworth, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 5 born Euxton, the son of Christopher ALSTEAD.2 In the census of 7 April 1861 at Old Laundry, Hall Lane, Haigh, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Joiner, aged 15 born Euxton, the son of Christopher ALSTEAD.3 John ALSTEAD witnessed the marriage of Robert ALSTEAD and Mary MASON on 10 December 1864 at St David, Haigh, Lancashire.4,5

Hannah married John ALSTEAD, son of Christopher ALSTEAD and Mary MARSDEN, on 3 September 1868 at St George, Wigan, Lancashire. She was of full age, a spinster residing in Upper Morris Street. Her father was listed as James FARRINGTON, a Labourer. After Banns. The marriage was witnessed by William ALSTEAD and Elizabeth FARRINGTON.1,2
