- TOTNES
The Rev. J. T. Halstead (Supt. Methodist Minister at Totnes) and Mrs. Halstead have received official information that their son, Flight- Officer James Lancaster Halstead, previously reported missing, is now presumed killed. He was born in the Transvaal and was educated at Kingswood School, Bath, where he captained the School Rugby XV. He played for the South against North Public School Boys. He went to Brazenose College, Oxford, winning two scholarships and a Hulme Exhibition, thus reaching college as the result of his own efforts. He was a member of the Oxford University Air Squadron, and at the outbreak of war was called up and became a pilot officer in the Coastal Command.
