That John-to-Elias connection has been touted before, but I have not found any hard evidence that John was married or had a family. John and Elias lived very near each other in 1850, but that's the only real connection I have seen. In fact, the Peters Genealogy says that John Halstead was "a lonely and eccentric bachelor." I trust that source, because I believe, from its very specific dates and some snippets of stories it contains, that it was written from actual interviews of that older generation; it was printed in 1899 by a grandson of Susannah Halstead Peters (d. 1853) who was born in the 1830s.
