  	Hi Gary, About Hester -- my last correspondance with her was about 2 or 3 months ago. I see from the address change that she has moved into what appears to be a convalescent facility. I think she is in her late 80s, and has MS. Hope she's doing okay -- I've never actually talked to her, but she seems like a real lady. And what a wealth of knowledge about our Halsteads! That's the weirdest part of all of this -- with all of the research she has put together, she is not related to us! Her ancestor was Gershom Halstead (whom William Leon Halstead says was a descendant of Jonas through Thomas, on his p. 66 -- but I get the feeling Hester and Claude disproved this), whose son was John, a ship joiner of Brooklyn, N.Y. (who at one time I thought might be my ancestor). Then I think it goes down through James Halstead to Daniel Berrien Halstead, her grandfather. Regards, Mark R. Wardwell [dtd 14 Sep 1940, date stamps rec'd Sep 18, 1940. In which Mr. Wardwell was addressing the subject of the parentage of Gershom Halstead.
