Y. His father, after emigrating to this country from England, settled in Saratoga County, N. Y., where he was salesman some years, engaged in farming, and at one time served as Constable. He and his wife died within a year of each other, leaving Henry and Laura, a widow, and mother of Martha, wife of Theodore Allen, residing on the old homestead. Our subject located in Girard Township and began, in connection with farming, in the commission and forwarding business. In 1846, he was elected Justice of the Peace, serving five years.
