  Thomas Powell I, wrote his will 3 Jan 1719/1720. It was proved 27 May,1722. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is a problem with the marriages of Thomas Powell. In the Rubin file there are three marriages. The dates conflict. The second spouse, Elizabeth Phillips, does not appear in any other databases. She is shown with the same list of children that appear for the third wife, Elizabeth Townsend, and the same spouses showing for those children. The dates for the last two marriages were both in 1690, and both took place in the home of Edmund Titus. I think the entry for Elizabeth Phillips is spurious and I have not entered it in this record. But there is also a problem for the date of the marriage to Elizabeth Townsend. It is shown in several databases, including one on the Coe family, and the one of Jim Rubins' Seaman database, as occurring in 1690. Yet her daughter, Rachel, is shown with a birth year of 1683 in all of the databases. This is probably an error of interpretation of the date from some early document by an early compiler, and then subsequent compilers copied the same error. Perhaps the date may have been 1693 rather than 1683, in which case Rachel and Phebe may have been twins. But that is pure speculation on my part and I will enter the information as I find it. 11 Mar 2001 QLE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part of the confusion is resolved. Elisabeth Townsend was previously married to Theophilus Phillips in 1685. He died the following year. Elisabeth, now his widow was Elisabeth (Townsend) Phillips. This accounts to the confusion in having Thomas Powell marrying both an Elisabeth Phillips and an Elisabeth Townsend, both marriages taking place in 1690 in the home of Edmund Titus. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
