    • DOCTOR TO TAKE UP OXFORD POST
      DR KENNETH HALSTEAD SMITH, son of Mr. S D Smith, headmaster of Todmorden Road Junior School has been appointed to the post of senior surgeon registrar at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford. The Radcliffe is the premier teaching hospital of Oxford University Medical School. Dr. Smith was head boy at Burnlev Grammar School in 1937. He proceeded to Manchester University where he graduated M.B., Ch.B., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., in 1943.
      After a period in Bootle General Hospital as house surgeon, he served on the Continent and in East Africa as Captain R.A.M.C., during the Second World War. Since the war he has held appointments as demonstrator in anatomy, Manchester University, House Surgeon, Manchester Royal Infirmary, usrgical tutor at Lister House, Manchester Royal Infirmary: house surgeon Altrincham Hospital and surgical registrar at Ancoats Hospital.
      In May 1852 Dr. Smith was successful in gaining the high distinction of F.R.C.S. London. He will take up his new duties at Oxford on January 1st.
