      [:BOLD]Retiring the age of 83, after working at various mills as cotton weaver and loom overlooker, Mr. Richard Halstead (84), a wellknown Calder Valley resident, who came to Burnley from his native Haslingden about 60 years ago, was interred at Worsthorne last Saturday. His last place of employment was A. Y. Scholfleld's Spring Mill, Springside, Todmorden. He started work at eight years of age for Messrs. Barnes, cotton manufacturers. He left Burnley in 1896, and went to Worsthorne, where he was loom overlooker for Messrs. Halstead's until 1900, when he removed Blackshawhead and worked for the Jack Bridge Manufacturing Co., eventually going to live Mytholmroyd. He leaves five sons, one daughter, eight grandchildren. And five great-grandchildren. His wife died ten years ago. Floral tributes were sent : —Sister Mary Ann (Nelson) Sophia. Arthur, Mary Ann and Walter (Burnley); Tom and Harry, Kate and family; Janey and John; Walter and Linda; Yates and Madonna; Allen and Arrangements Mr. Albert Greenwood N.A.F.D., Spring Villa, Springside, Todmorden.
