    • "Got Petrol Cans Mixed Up"
      Yenston Man's Admission
At Yeovil Yeovil County Sessions, on Wednesday, Arthur Albert John Kingsbury, of Yenston was fined £15 and six guineas costs for having commercial petrol in a private car.
Prosecuting, Mr. John Hutton, a Treasury solicitor said when P.C. House, Yeovil. visited a garage at Martock. he found the car's tank contained commercial petrol. The vehicle was extensively damaged and it was subsequently ascertained that defendant had been in collision with a motor-cyclist on the main Henstridge-West Stour road. The motorcyclist Mr. Hutton said, was found lying beside his damaged machine in an unconscious condition.
The owner of the car, Joseph Halsted Cobden, Laurels Farm, Martock told the constable. "Kingsbury is the driver of the car and is given coupons to get the petrol required. I know nothing about red petrol being in the tank." His statement was accepted and that was the reason he was not changed.
Continuing. Mr. Hutton said that accused was handed a bottle containing a sample of the petrol which he refused, saving "I do not want the bottle. There is no doubt about it being red. I put it in and that is it." In a subsequent statement Kingsbury said he put the petrol in the car ready for use but "must have got the cans mixed up."
Mr. Hutton added, "The journey which the defendant was making when this unfortunate accident occurred was entirely unauthorised by the car owner and was in fact pleasure and not business."
Kingsbury, who pleaded guilty said the offence was not committed deliberately. "It was a mistake on my part with the two cans of commercial and private petrol.
'Inspector D. W H. Taylor said that at Gillingham Magistrates Court in May, Kingsbury was fined £20 and had his licence suspended for two years for dangerous driving, and a further £5 for failing to report an accident.
The iustices allowed Kingsbury two months to pay the £15 fine, with the alternative of two months' imprisonment in default.
