    • A Boy Found Drowned in A Lodge.- —On Thursday afternoon an inquest was held at the Red Lion Hotel, Accrington before Mr. H. U. Hargreaves,.on the body of Charles Pilkington, aged about thirteen years, who was found drowned in a lodge of water. The first witness called was Ewen Riley, who deposed. :I knew the deceased by sight. I found his body in a lodge of water which supplies Mr. Grimshaw's print works at Plantation Mill, Old Accrington. My land adjoins the lodge, and yesterday morning I was passing by the side of the lodge when I saw something I the water, which proved to be the dead body. :I went to the print works and got an iron bar with a hook at the end of it, with which I pulled the body out. James Wade was with me at the time. The body appeared to have been in the water some days. I knew who it was when I got the body out. The lodge is not fenced off, and there is no road nearer than ninety yards. The body was about three yards from the side. Joseph Pilkington, Abbey Street, deposed: I am sixteen years of age, and live with my father, George Pilkington, butcher. Deceased was my brother, and thirteen years of age. He left home a fortnight ago tonight. I did not say where he was going to, and he never returned. I did not know that he or the other lads have been in the habit of going near the lodge. It was between seven and eight o'clock when deceased left home. George Pilkington, Abbey Street Deposed: I am the father of deceased. I scolded him the night he left home because he had spent the 6d which his mother had given him to pay for his dancing. I ordered to get washed. He was crying then, and also when my wife and I went to get the baby christened. When I returned he left home. I did not strike him. He had a fair temper, but was stupid at times. He was a boy that talked very little. I never had any idea that he would destroy himself, and I cannot say whether he has done so or not - John Baines deposed that he had laid out the body of the deceased. There was no injury upon it. — The jury returned an open verdict.—Deceased has relatives in Bury.
