    • Mr. Robert Alstead, chairman of the Wigan Local Employment Committee, appointed an O. B. E., is a former M.P. for Altrincham and ex-Mayor of Wigan. A prominent Liberal, Mr. Alstead unsuccessfully contested Wigan in 1918 and Altrincham in 1922, but was elected for Altrincham in the following year. He was a member of the Wigan Town Council for seventeen years and Mayor in 1926-27. He is head of the firm of Robert Alstead, Ltd., woollen manufacturers and tailors, of Wigan.
