  Gilbert Purdy's Obituary from Joseph Howe's Newspaper June 1838 Edition. Died at Wallace on Tuesday morning the 5th instance, Gilbert Purdy Esquire in the 88th year of his age, leaving a widow and a numerous circle of friends to lament his death. During a long residence is this country he has sustained an unblemished character and he has been for many years a consistent member of the Methodist Society. Lieut. Gilbert Purdy joined the Royal Army in 1776, served as a guide, was appointed a Lieut. with the West Chester Loyalists. He lived with his father 1775. His commission in the Guides and Pioneers was signed by Sir William Howe May 1777.
