  	Copy of West Union Agro-Gazi Obituary - Mrs. Livona Halsted. Livona C. Burdick was born in Pennsylvania June 24, 1829 and died at the home of her son William E.Halsted,near West Union, Iowa, Dec 21, 1917. aged eighty eight years and six months. With her parents she moved to New York and from there to Fayette county, Iowa, near West Union, In 1855 she was married to Charles Jones. One year later they moved to Howard county, Iowa near Cresco. One daughter was born to them, Alice E. now Mrs. Fred. I. Post of Chelan, Wash. In 1858 Mr. Jones died. In 1861 she was married to George William Halsted. To them were born four children - William E. Halsted of West Union, Stella M. Halsted (Wilcox) who died Dec. 22, 1892; Nellie F. (now Mrs. W.H. Adler of Bolney,Sask.) and George A. of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Halsted lived on the same farm near Cresco from 1861 to 1901. They then went to Dayton Ore. and took their little grandson Harold L.Wilcox with them. In April 1907 (shuld read 1908). Mr.Halsted died and in June of the same year little Harold died (Janice Pashalka notes:" do they mean 1907 or 1908 as Great Grand father died in April 27, 1908 in Dayton Oregon."), leaving her entirely alone. At that time she came back to this county to live with her son, William E. Halsted, near West Union,With whom she resided till the time of her death, except one year spent with her daughter in Oregon. In her early life she united with the Baptist church and has been a faithful member to the end. She was one of the first originators of the First Baptist church in West Union. The funeral services were held at the home of her son, William E. Halsted, near West Union,conducted by Rev. G. S. Lackland. The remains were then taken to Cresco by auto. Grave services were conducted by the Rev. J.A. Pettit, and the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Oak Lawn cemetery.
