TOSSING FOR TWIST —At the Skipton Petty Sessions on Saturday, before Mr T H Dewhurst and other Magistrates. Joseph Halstead, quarryman, of Earbv, and Joseph Walsh. of a similar occupation, living at Barnoldswick, were summoned for gaming on the highway with coins. A constable saw the young fellows on the 6th inst. on Tubber Hill, Salterforth. They were playing pitch and toss. They decamped on seeing the officer, but were overtaken. The defendants, who appeared, explained that they were only tossing for half an ounce of twist. There was no real gambling for money. There being no record against the men they were allowed to escape with the payment of costs.
