- "Upon the first tocsin of the War of Secession he raised a company with who he served at Fort Walker in the Battle of Hilton Head, after which he served continuously in the Army of North Virginia until he was wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines. Upon his convalescence, his wound incapacitating him from futher infantry service, he was offered a special commission to England, but he refused to absent himself from further field service. Where upon he joined the Calvary and again went to Virginia where he and a bunch were killed at Hawe's Shops.
