    • Compiler's notes: The construction of this family as shown by Hester Halstead Pier indicates Jacob [born 1806] m. Sarah [born 1815] on 5 Sep 1846; the only problem is, she then shows five children born 1830 thru 1845...placing the 1st child born when the mother was 15 and the last child born one year before the parents married. Additionally, Hester shows another Jacob D. Halstead b. 1806 NY, m. Sarah S. - - - b. 1815 and aside for differing birth dates for the five children [born 1820 thru 1847] they appear to be the same children...this family she has listed on p. 13 of her section entitled "Unknown Halsteads". I believe these are the same family with some disparity in the accuracy of the information.
My construction therefore of this family is to follow the Jacob D. and Sarah M. [or S.] North listed on p. 111 of Hester's work. In that the five children's birth years seem to be plausible with the parents birth years, I intend to project an approximate 1829\30 marriage in place of the 1846 date, and if the 5 Sep 1846 date has any validity with this family, it may be the death date of the mother Sarah - but that is unproven. We do have Jacob D. listed in the 1850 Ulster Co., NY census so we feel certain this would not be his death date. Additional note: Forest Smith located Jacob in the 1860 and 1870 census living with the family of Edward Tompkins? (son-in-law? Mary E. (25)) also children; Emily (17), Abram (18) which lends further consideration of Sarah's possible death in Sep 1846. G.A.H. Jul 2006
