  • Notes 

    • James brought his children to Kansas about the year 1860. By April 18 63 he was declared deceased and Judge J. Y. Campbell became the guardi an of the younger children. A copy of the guardianship papers a re in my personal files.

      This writer has searched for war record's on James Ashburn to no avai l. One can only assume that either he died somewhere between 1860-1863 a nd is in an unknown or unmarked burial site. The other possibility is th at he went elsewhere and established himself in a new life, never to be he ard from again.

      Family stories passed down is that there was, or is Cherokee Indian in t he ancestry somewhere. Which side is not known. This writer is y et to discover any document's that would bear out this family legend.

      A copy of the marriage certificate, recorded in Volume A, page 108, of t he marriage records, Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois is in this writer 's personal file's.
