M. FRED HALLAM
Another motor-car driver, James Halstead, of Accrington, has been charged with manslaughter, although the jury at the inquest that there was not evidence to justify such a verdict, and when the driver was brought up at the Police Court the Chief Constable withdrew the charge of manslaughter, and asked for a remand till Wednesday for being drunk in charge of the motor-car. Halstead, who made no objection, was remanded till Wednesday. bail being accepted, himself in £1O, and his father, Smith Halstead, iron turner, Ormerodateeet. Accrington, in £5.
The motor, driven by Halstead, and containing four other men. was proceeding towards Church when it came into collision with a tram.
The four men were thrown out. One of them, Fred Hallam, of Byrom-street, Blackburn, was so seriously injured about the bead and body that he died at the local hospital on Tuesday night without regaining consciousness. The other occupants of the car—Vaser Horner, Brown-street. and William Morris, weaver, Audley Range, :Blackburn—were more or less hurt. _
