James Hearmons Halstead, b 13 November, 1815
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
Caves Township McKean County State of Pennsylvania November 13th 1815 was born James Hearmons Halstead Son of James Halstead by his wife Judith it being on Monday
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
He is listed elsewhere as James Halstead III. To avoid confusion in these [my database -QLE] records in the computer, he is titled as James Halstead V as he is the fifth surviving "James" in direct lineal descent. He had a younger brother who died when only one day old, James Miller Halstead. This James is James Hearmons Halstead, and as his father is James Douglas Halstead, so while not technically number five, I have so labeled him to avoid confusion in the general listing.

Elizabeth Caroline Halstead, b 10 February, 1818

"Betsy" Halstead or "Betsy Caroline" Halstead.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
"Caroline G.(8) Halstead (-1915; James(7)) m. William Beck Jackson, and lived at New Albany and Robinson, Ills."
(This reference may or may not be correct for Elizabeth Caroline Halstead. If correct, it would give a death date and second spouse where previously we only had a birth date. It would also indicate she lived to be 97 years of age. Considering the number of children she had with Frank McCorkhill, it seems most improbable that "Carolyn G." and "Carolyn Elizabeth" are the same person. Kentucky Sept. 11th 1822 Was Born Amanda Adeline [Adaline] Halstead by his wife Judith it being on thursday. [another portion of these records indicate she was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and not in Kentucky? The family may have been living across the river in Kentucky at the time, but I am fairly certain Amanda was born in Cincinnati, Ohio QLE]

/sA1/ Sources for James Halstead=Judith Curtis family were derived from the Baker family bible, with notations by James Hearmon Halstead, written notes of the Baker and Cross families, and interviews with the family (the interviews presumably were by Richard Clarkson Erd. QLE) /sA2/ "Halsteads in the US" by W. L. Halstead, p65.

Well, that went better than I had hoped for. When I interject something into the notes I always try to remember to add my initials. Sometimes I forget.
Now allow me to comment on your entry of Caroline Gertrude Halstead. My first problem relates to the care with which each child born to this family was recorded in the family Bible. I entered this material as it was given to me, spelling, upper case and lower case letters. My brother is a meticulous individual, and he would be unhappy if I did otherwise. If a child bearing this name had been born to this family, it would seem most unusual for the fact to not be entered in their Bible.
Next, the year of her birth cannot conveniently be squeezed in between that of the other children.
You have her birth occurring in New Albany, New York. The family was still living in New York in 1813 when Thomas Haskill Halstead was born in Riga, in 1813. But I can find no "New Albany, New York" in my Atlas. The only three towns I know of that are named New Albany are in Indiana, Mississippi and Pennsylvania. But perhaps that information should have been entered as the site of her death. The spouse you have entered for Caroline, William Beck Jackson, Sr., is listed as having died in New Albany, Indiana.
As you may have noticed, I came across data on a "Carolyn G. Halstead that was supposed to be the same person as Elizabeth Carolyn Halstead, and at the time I rejected the concept for the reasons I interjected into the notes for Carolyn.
CL, what I suspect is that there was a Carolyn Gertrude Halstead, but that she does not belong to this family. What do you think?
CL, the Teed file you sent me this morning is too large for notepad to open, and not a recognizable file to the Family Tree Maker program. I am going to try to open it with my old software program, but I fear that is probably not going to work. I'll let you know. But my thanks go with this E-mail for remembering that the Teed relationship is one that I have stumbled over many times.
Ken
