    • possibly married "the First Presbyrterian Church at Ballston" - source Ken Erd <qlerd@kornet.net> e-mail 1 Sep 2000: "A hearty hello to everyone, I have heard it said that in every myth, in every old-wive's-tale, and in every fable there is a grain of truth. Sometimes that truth is not easy to find. I was contacted be a descendant of Patience Jones who offered to send me information on her line, and the connection with her spouse, Samuel Halstead, 1767 - 1853, son of James II and (?) Elizabeth Teed. Boy, was I hot to trot. The Teed connection has been a bugaboo for me for well over a quarter of a century, and as I am a descendant of James I do hope to get the straight of that someday.
Well, I will copy what I received. It doesn't seem to play well with what I have in my database, nor with what I have seen in those that have been so kindly shared with me. Some of the points I found interesting and wondered if they could really be so are:
1] Was Samuel Halstead really Samuel Benjamin Halstead?
2] Were Samuel Jones and Margaret _____ really the parents of Patience?
3] Was the first wife of James, whose surname was probably Teed like that
of his second spouse, was her first name Mehitable?
I thought with everyone looking at this, if there is any value in the piece someone might find it. Ken

Surname: ALLEN, BALL, CHESEBRO, DAGGETT, HALSTED

HENRY BALL, Justice of the Peace, Girard, is the only living son of Henry and Betsey (Halsted) Ball, and was born in 1810, in Galway, N. Y. His father, after emigrating to this country from England, settled in Saratoga County, N. Y., where he was salesman some years, engaged in farming, and at one time served as Constable. He and his wife died within a year of each other, leaving Henry and Laura, a widow, and mother of Martha, wife of Theodore Allen, residing on the old homestead. Our subject located in Girard Township and began, in connection with farming, in the commission and forwarding business. In 1846, he was elected Justice of the Peace, serving five years. He was re-elected in 1857, and has since filled this office. He has also served as School Director eighteen years, Secretary and Treasurer of the Council many years, and as Treasurer of the School Board, and Secretary of the Cemetery Company, in all capacities with satisfaction to his constituents and credit to himself. He was married to Martha Chesebro, a native of Saratoga County, N. Y. Three children blessed this union, one surviving, Jennie, widow of Fenton Daggett, by whom she has one child, Fenta.
