e-mail correspondence with Ken Erd in 2004: "Cousin Ken:
Databases change so it is difficult for any of us to keep up...in reviewing my input from Hester's latest, and comparing to your most recent database I have which I believe was last May, you have a son Benjamin Hilton Halstead placed with the family of Ezekiel and Sarah [Lyon] Halstead. With a note: "In Gary's data he has Benjamin Hilton Halstead entered provisionally as the son of Ezekiel Halstead, IV, rather than the son of Ezekiel Halstead, III. The dates preclude Gary's provisional placement. I think Richard Erd was correct.
27 Jan 02 QLE"
This placement with Ezekiel Halstead IV and Ann [Griffin] Halstead came from page 53 of "Halstead - Outline Guide..." My current notes read: "our new source, that of Hester Halstead Pier's Ms gives a considerably different construction of this family. The original source "Halstead - An Outline Guide..." had the construction of this family as Ezekiel 1787-1828 and spouse Ann Griffith 1787-1839, m. 1808 and listed four sons and two unknown daughters, and that data shows dates for only one son Benjamin Hilton Halstead 1795-1846 [dates which do not ring true with the mother's birth date nor their wedding date. This compilation will use the new data from Hester which appears much more plausible. G.A.H. Dec 2003" Under the construction from Hester's work, Benjamin Hilton Halstead is shown with the dates of "26 Jan 1814 to 31 Dec 1846" with the four children divided equally between two separate wives - none of the children apparently lived to adulthood. The mothers/wives are shown by Hester as [1] Ann B. Griffin, [2] Ann B. Hilton, with the 1st wife passing in 1812. The Surname of wife #2 would explain Benjamin's middle name...
In respect to brother Richard's information...I wish I knew what he or Claude Halstead had that gave them the dates of 1785-1846 for Benjamin Hilton...I concur that with those dates, he would fit in Ezekiel and Sarah [Lyons] Halstead's family in between Andrew and Ezekiel 4th...but then on there flip-flop the Benjamin Hilton as son of mother Ann B. [Hilton] Halstead also fits with the new dates...too bad all these sources are dead ;-/ Was there possibly to Bens, one without a hotel chain, just 'plain Ben' [1785-1846], and another [1814-1846] Benjamin Hilton Halstead? Maybe someone in the group knows the answer...I haven't found anything in Seversmith, Hinshaw, or the like. Sincerely, God Bless. Cousin Gary
Gary A. Halstead

HILTON, Ann B. - 2nd wife - d. Bef Jun 1854, State of New York USA |
| Marriage |
12 Dec 1813 [6, 7] |
- If this is so, then the last two of the four children shown would have been by this marriage; however there is some question here as 1st wife's death is listed as 1839; unless there is an error there or they divorced ca 1813. also had several daughters, names not given by source
