[5] Burnley Express - STREET ACCIDENTS.
About 10.50 a.m. on Wednesday a motor-car owned by Dr. Hodges, and driven by Gilbert Halstead, was proceeding along Church Street, when a girl named Ruth Clarke, aged six years, ran out of Engine Street and was knocked down. She sustained bruises on the leg and ankle, and suffered from shock. She was removed home after receiving attention at Dr. Hodges' surgery.—About 11-50 the same morning a collision occurred in Church Street between a motor-van owned and driven by Arthur Metcalfe, Holbeck Street, and a horse driven vehicle in charge of Anthony Thomas, of Ivan Street. Thomas was thrown to the ground and sustained injury to his 'right hand. The horse took fright, and bolted along Church Street, Colne Road, into Briercliffe Road, where is was ultimately stopped. Fortunately the damage was confined to a broken shaft and snapped tracing.

At Nelson Police Court, last Saturday, Gilbert Halstead, Higgin-street, Burnley, was fined 30s. for using an unauthorised headlamp. P.C. Terry said that he saw defendant in Leedsroad, Nelson, in charge of a motor coach which was showing a very bright headlamp. There was no diffusing material in the mask, and the lamp contained a 36-watt bulb. Defendant said that the firm which employed him bought a second-hand coach, and he was merely driving it home. He had had a breakdown at Silsden. Alderman W. Bannister magistrate): I saw this. It was like a searchlight, and people were going to it to see what it was.
