    • Sad End of a Woman.
On Monday morning the dead body of a woman was dragged out of the canal between Hapton and Rosegrove. It was subsequently discovered that deceased was the wife of Joseph Veevers, hawker and general dealer, Colne. She had left home on the Wednesday previous for the purpose of hawking caps, and it is supposed she missed her way and fell into the canal. Where the body was found the canal is entirely unprotected from the road, which either the canal or road trustees will now take steps to remedy and make more safe to travellers. At an inquest held at Hapton on Tuesday before coroner Hargreaves, the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the facts of the case.
