William Leon Halstead wrote on p. 15 of his "The Story of the Halsteads of the United States": "Locy Halstead [1803-1874] is believe to have been the inventor of the railroad turntable, and, for a number of years, built them on Goose Island in the Illinois River, and at Ashland Avenue and 22nd Street, Chicago. He was a descendant of James Halstead [1756-1815], of Albany County, New York; was born in Covington, Kentucky; married Helmina St. John; and died at Binghamton, New York...."
