- She was born in the Indian Territory shortly before Oklahoma became a state. With her parents, Charles and Madge King she along with brother, Henry and sister, Ona moved to Visalia when she was 12. She attended school in Visalia and in 1928 she and Claude Halstead were married. They lived and farmed west of Visalia. He preceded her in death in 1983.

Claude Halstead - Obituaries - Saturday, December 13, 2003, Tulare Advanced-Register - Viva Halstead, 96, of Visalia [CA] passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003. She was born in the Indian Territory shortly before Oklahoma became a state. With her parents, Charles and Madge King she along with brother, Henry and sister, Ona moved to Visalia when she was 12. She attended school in Visalia and in 1928 she and Claude Halstead were married. They lived and farmed west of Visalia. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She was active in the Alta Mira Community Club for many years and served as president and then served as secretary for many years. After her husband retired, they made many trips throughout the country in their camper visiting many national parks, friends and relatives.
She is survived by three sons, Claude Halstead Jr., of Visalia, David Halstead of San Jose and George Halstead of Powder Springs, Georgia; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Ona Knupple of Visalia.
Visitation will be 1-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Miller Memorial Chapel in Visalia. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will follow in the Visalia District Cemetery. [Calif.]
