When, at Colchester on Friday, Ernest James Strowlger, of South Street, was summoned by his wife, Mrs. Ada Strowlger, who applied for a separation on the ground of persistent cruelty, Mr. T. P. Eldridge, for the applicant, said defendant began to find fault with everything. He had also blackened her eye- While giving evidence Mrs. Strowlger fainted. She admitted that when she found her room in great disorder she hit her husband in the eye when he was asleep.
Defendant's brother. Fredk. Strowlger, of Colne Bank Road, said defendant wanted leading, and not driving. Applicant, he thought, was crazy to marry him. At Huddersfield Bankruptcy Court, on Monday (before Mr. Registrar Freeman), the public examinations were commenced of Henry Cecil Turner, Obelisk House, Cooper Bridge; Annie Turner and Emily Turner, spinsters, both of 12, High Street, Brighouse, trading together as worsted manufacturers, under the style of Henry C. Turner and Co., at Colne Bridge Mills, Colnebridge, Bradley, and as cotton, rope, and spindle band manufacturers, under the style of Executors of Jonathan Turner, at Owlen Ings Mill, Brighouse.
A summary the debtors' statement of affairs showed that the gross liabilities were £25,629 17s. 11d., of which amount £15,099 15s was expected to rank for divident. Assets were estimated to produce £6.763 2s. 9d., which left a deficiency of £18,336 12s. 3d.
Henry Turner said the £18.OOO deficiency arose in part from the Colnebridge business, and in part from his own personal extravagance.
The Official Receiver asked for the examination to be adjourned for further information on certain Copenhagen losses.
The Registrar said the ladies were very much to be pitied, for they had been absolutely honest and straightforward in all their dealings.
The examinations were adjourned until November 12.8
