Edward EVERY was born on 28 March 1801 at Egginton, Derbyshire.1
Edward married Elizabeth CLAYTON on 10 February 1835 at St Bartholomew, Colne, Lancashire. He was a Gentleman residing in Eggington, Derbyshire. By Licence. The marriage was witnessed by Henry WIGLEWORTH, William WHALLEY and Augusta MASTER.2,3

Research Note: Edward was born Edward EVERY in 1801 and changed his name to Edward EVERY-CLAYTON by Royal Licence granted on 21 August 1835.4
In the census of 6 June 1841 at Carr Hall, Barrowford, Lancashire, Edward was listed as aged 40 born out of county, the Head of Household; of Independent Means, living with his assumed wife Elizabeth and children Penelope, Elizabeth, Caroline and Thomas.5
In the census of 30 March 1851 at Carr Hall, Barrowford, Lancashire, Edward was listed as aged 49 born Eggington, Derbyshire, the Head of Household; a Landed Proprietor and Majestrate, living with his wife Elizabeth, sons Thomas Edward and Henry, daughters Penelope, Elizabeth, Caroline, Frances, Edith and Ennette.6
His wife, Elizabeth, died on 28 September 1853 at Carr Hall, Barrowford, Lancashire.
Edward married Eliza HOLGATE, daughter of Robert HOLGATE and Ellen Esther HALSTED, on 10 October 1854 at St Peter, Burnley, Lancashire. He was an Esquire, a Liet. Colonel in the 1st Royal Lancashire Malitia aged 53, a widower residing at Carr Hall, Market Street, Burnley. His father was listed as Sir Henry Casey, Baronet. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church, by Licence. The marriage was witnessed by Amelia HALSTED, Thomas HOLGATE, Catherine HOLGATE and F M MASTER.7,8,1
In the census of 7 April 1861 at Carr Hall, Barrowford, Lancashire, Edward was listed as aged 59 born Eggington, Derbyshire, the Head of Household; J P and Lieut Colonel of Lancashire Militia, living with his wife Eliza, son Edward Chas, daughters Elizabeth, Fanny, Edith, Annette, Harriet Annie, Ellen and Amelia Jane.9 In the census of 2 April 1871 at Chester Road, Hartford, Cheshire, he was listed as married, a Justice of the Peace, aged 69 born Eggington, Derbyshire, the father-in-law of Alfred Ward POWLES.10 Edward EVERY-CLAYTON was granted Letters of Administration on the estate of Annette EVERY-CLAYTON on 2 August 1873 at Lancaster, Lancashire.11 Edward EVERY-CLAYTON was the executor of Jane HALSTED's estate granted on 30 March 1876 at Principal Probate Registry, London; under £1,500.11 Edward EVERY-CLAYTON was the executor of Elizabeth HALSTED's estate granted on 7 November 1879 at Principal Probate Registry, London; under £1,000.11
In the census of 3 April 1881 at Rowley Hall, Worsthorne with Hurstwood, Lancashire, Edward was listed as aged 97 born Egginton, Derbyshire, the Head of Household; a Magistrate, living with his wife Eliza, son Charles, daughters Harriot, Ellen and Jane.12
Edward died on 11 October 1885 at Rowley, Lancashire, at the age of 84.13,1,11 Edward was buried on 15 October 1885 at St Peter, Burnley, Lancashire. His estate was probated on 22 December 1885 at Principal Probate Registry, London. The estate was valued at £3,284 9s 0d.11

Amelia HOLGATE was baptised on 15 February 1820 at St Peter, Burnley, Lancashire.2 In the census of 6 June 1841 at Hood House, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, she was listed as aged 20 born in county, the assumed niece of Jane HALSTED.3

Research Note: The notice in the Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser - Wednesday 18 February 1846 reads

"Whitehall, February 2nd, 1846. The Queen has been pleased to grant unto Eliza Holgate and Amelia Holgate, spinsters, only daughters of Robert Holgate, late of Habergham Eaves, in the County Palatine of Lancaster, gent., deceased, by Ellen Esther, his wife, also deceased, who was one of the daughters of Nicholas Halsted, of Rowley, in the Chapelry of Burnley, in the said County Palatine, gent., also deceased, her royal license and authority, that they may take and use the surname of Halsted only, in lieu of that of Holgate, and also bear the arms of Halsted only ; such arms being first duly exemplified according to the laws of arms, and recorded in the Heralds' Office, otherwise the said royal license and permission to be void and of none effect; and also to command, that the said royal concession and declaration be registered in the College of Arms.”.4 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, she was listed as single, an Annuitant, aged 31 born Habergham Eaves, the niece of Jane HALSTED.5 In the census of 7 April 1861 at Hood House, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, she was listed as single, a Landed Propritor, aged 41 born Habergham Eaves, the niece of Jane HALSTED.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 at Hood House, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, she was listed as single, a Land Owner, aged 50 born Burnley, the niece of Jane HALSTED.7 Amelia HOLGATE was the executor of Jane HALSTED's estate granted on 30 March 1876 at Principal Probate Registry, London; under £1,500.8
Amelia died on 13 January 1893 at Hood House, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire.8,1

Lt Gerald Hargreave MAWSON R.E.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Throughout nine days' operations this officer manitained communications between the brigade and all the units. He himself was stunned by a fragment of shell, and everal men were killed close to him.

Research Note: A marriage has been arranged, and will thortly take place, between Captain Gerald Hargreave Mawson, M.C., R.E., elder sou Dr. and Mrs. James Moorland Road, Leeds, and Mary Ruth, younger daughter Major and Mrs. Evcry-Halsted, Kington, Herefordshire.2
Gerald married Mary Ruth EVERY-HALSTED, daughter of Charles Edward Every HALSTED and Lucy Clara DALLAS, on 23 April 1919 at the Register Office, Leeds, Yorkshire.3,1 He was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 60 Kimbolton Road, Bedford, Bedfordshire. He was married, a Guest House Propietor, born 11 January 1890. He was also in the Observer Corps.4 Gerald Hargreave MAWSON and Mary Ruth EVERY-HALSTED were divorced in 1941.1
