Mary MACKNESS

#9228, b. 1841, d. 1922
Last Edited=13 Mar 2015
     Her married name was THACKRAY.
Mary MACKNESS was born in 1841 at Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire.

Research Note: Mary was married in 1871 as Mary HOLSTEAD. Her daughter Sarah born in 1865 was also a HOLSTEAD with no father listed but I can not find a marriage between Mary MACKNESS and a HOLSTEAD. She is on the census in 1861 with her sister as a single woman under the name of MkNESS.

The only other option is that she married some else before the HOLSTEAD but that would be two marriages in four years but I am not convinced.
Mary married George THACKRAY on 22 February 1871 at the Register Office, Huntingdon, Huntingdonshire. She was aged 30, a widow residing in Godmanchester. Her father was listed as George MACKNESS (deceased), a Chelsea Pensioner. By Certificate. The marriage was witnessed by Frederick MELLOR and Saml NICHOLSON.1,2,3
In the census of 2 April 1871 at Cambridge Street, Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire, she was listed as aged 30 born Godmanchester, the wife of George THACKRAY (a Farmer, living with his wife Mary and daughter Sarah E HALSTEAD.)4
In the census of 3 April 1881 at Cambridge Road, Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire, she was listed as aged 38 born Upton, the wife of George THACKRAY (a Dairyman, living with his wife Mary, son Richard and daughters Sarah E and Mary.)5
In the census of 5 April 1891 at Cambridge Street, Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire, she was listed as aged 49 born Ripton Wood, the wife of George THACKRAY (a Retired Farmer, living with his wife Mary, daughters Sarah Elizth SEYAMA and Mary THACKRAY, son Richard, grandson William M SEYAMA.)6
Her husband, George, died in 1897 in the Huntingdon registration district.7 In the census of 31 March 1901 at Cambridge Street, Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire, she was listed as a widow, aged 59 born Upton, the mother of Richard THACKRAY.8 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 98 Colwyn Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, she was listed as a widow, of Private Means, aged 69 born Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire, the mother-in-law of Walter Havell SQUIRES.9
Mary's death was registered in 1922 in the Huntingdon registration district.10
