On Monday ...
ON THE BODY OF JANE FOLDS. The jury then proceeded to enquire concerning the death of Jane Folds, who was found dead in bed that morning. The following evidence was given :—
Robert Watson said : I live in Whittam-street, Habergham-Eaves. l am a weaver. The deceased was my mother. I lived with her. She was 70 years of age. My father's name was James Watson. My mother has been married twice. Her second husband's name is John Folds. They have not lived together of eight or nine years. My brother and I, and my sister's daughter lived with her. I found her dead about eight o'clock this morning. I slept upstairs with my brother. She has been better and worse this last two years. When I came down stairs I went to the bed the to wake her. The little girl said, " My granny's hands are cold." I had been up with her at one o'clock, and given her some tea. She often wanted tea during the night. She had a cough. She eat well till within the last two or three days. She had no doctor. She was troubled with rheumatism a bit, but she always attended to the house. She would always wait on us. The little girl helped her. She has fallen off muoh this last two years, and been very feeble. She has never had any fits. She has worn away. I think she died from debility—old age. She has always gone to bed early—about eight o'clock. My brother, Halstead Watson, weut down about two o'clook to make her some tea. She oould not wake the girl and called out to us. I told my brother to get up.
Jane Fishwick said My husband's name is William Fishwick. I live in Whittam-street. My husband is a self-acting minder. I laid out the body. There is no injury, only a mark on the arm done by a string which I think she had on her night dress. I knew her. I believe her sons have done their best for her.
The jury returned the verdict, "Died from natural causes."5,6
