Harry HALSTEAD

     Harry HALSTEAD was born on 21 March 1910 at Burnley, Lancashire.1 He was the son of Arthur HALSTEAD and Emily WATERWORTH. In the census of 2 April 1911 at 14 Overdale Street, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 1 born Burnley, the son of Arthur HALSTEAD.2 He was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 1 Bradford Terrace, Bury, Lancashire. He was single, a Mobile Police Constable, born 21 March 1910.3
Harry died on 14 November 1944 at the age of 34. His address at the time was recorded as 25 Sutcliffe Street, Bury, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Mierlo War Cemetery.4,5

Research Note: ROLL OF HONOUR
Mr and Mrs. Halstead, of 25, Sutcliffe Street, Harle Syke, who last week received news that their son, Lieut. Harry Halstead, had been seriously wounded in the right shoulder on November 4th and was in hospital in Holland, have now been officially informed that he died on November 7th.
Lieut. Halstead, who was 34 and single, joined the Coldstream Guards in 1930, and served in Egypt before becoming a constable in the Bury Police Force four years later. Called up from the Reserve in December, 1939, he was commissioned in October of last year, and had been serving with the Royal Scots Regt. He joined the British Army of Liberation shortly after D-Dav.
The article has a picture of Harry.6 His estate was given Letters of Administration on 15 August 1945 at Llandudno, Conway. The estate was valued at £611 9s 4d.5

At the police court, on Monday, Jack Halstead, weaver, now of Burnley, was summoned by his wife, Minnie L. Halstead, 24, Maple-street, for persistent cruelty. Defendant did not appear.— Complainant stated that she was married the defendant in 1906 and there were four children. Her husband had been cruel to her all her married life and she had taken proceedings against him previously. On: the 12th December her husband returned home drunk and turned them all out, threatening set the house on fire. Her husband had an Army pension of 28s per week and 8s. of that amount was for her and her two young children. She thought that he could pay her that 8s. and add another 7s to it, making 15s. in all.—The Chairman (Alderman White) said the Bench would grant her a maintenance order of 18s. per week —10s in addition to the pension award.3 Minnie Lilian HALSTEAD appeared on the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 in the household of Frank Greatrix HALL and Jane HALL at Station Road, Donnington, Lincolnshire. She was a widow, a Cotton Weaver Incapacitated, born 3 March 1885; There was one other redacted person in the household.4
Minnie's death was registered in 1944 in the Spalding registration district.5
