Edward died on 11 August 1916 at Pas de Calais. He is commemorated on the St Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L'Avoue, France. He was awarded the British and Victory medals.5

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church was the scene of an interesting wedding last week, the contracting parties being Private Herbert Halstead of the R.A.M.C., son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Halstead of 13, Melville-street, and Miss Amv Taylor, eldest daughter of Mrs. Taylor, of 19, Gillowe-street, Burnley. The parties are well-known Burnley young people. The bridegroom before enlist- ing was a Sunday School teacher at Mount Pleasant, whilst bride has been a member of the choir for several years, and an active church worker. The Rev. J. Barton Clarke performed the ceremony, and the organist (Mr R. Robinson) played several selections. The bride, who was given away by her brother Mr. Herbert Taylor, was attired in a neat gown of saxe blue eioline and she carried a bouquet of roses and double narcissi. The bridesmaids. Miss L Taylor and Miss Miriam Halstead, sisters of the parties, carried bouquets of orchids and narcissi. The duties of best man were performed by Mr. Walter Halstead, brother the bridegroom, in the absence Mr. Wm. Halstead, who has enlisted in the R.F.A., and is now in Surrey. The bridegroom has two other brothers in the army. After the wedding ceremony, a recep-tion took place the home of the bridegroom's parents.7 He was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 33 Stonefall Avenue, Harrogate, Yorkshire. He was married, a Fish Dealer, born 8 October 1887.8

In the census of 5 April 1891 at 30 Patten Street, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 9 weeks born Burnley, the son of John Archibald HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 31 March 1901 at 3 Mitchell Street, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 10 born Burnley, the son of John Archibald HALSTEAD.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 1 Rendel Street, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Cotton Twister, aged 20 born Burnley, the son of John Archibald HALSTEAD.4 John HALSTEAD witnessed the marriage of Mary Alice HALSTEAD and Ernest EDWARDS on 27 March 1913 at Ebenezer Chapel, Burnley, Lancashire.5,6
