In the census of 31 March 1901 at 13 Halton Street, Barrowford, Lancashire, Frankland was listed as aged 39 born Roughlee, the Head of Household; a Cotton Spinner, living wtih his wife Mary, sons Sutcliffe HALSTEAD and Clarence SUTCLIFFE.2
Frankland died in June 1909 at Burnley, Lancashire.3 Frankland was buried on 3 July 1909 at Wheatley Lane Inghamite, Fence, Lancashire, Buried in Thomas HALSTEAD's grave.4

     Sutcliffe HALSTEAD was born in 1884 at Barrowford, Lancashire.1 He was the son of Mary HALSTEAD. In the census of 31 March 1901 at 13 Halton Street, Barrowford, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Cotton Weaver, aged 17 born Barrowford, the son of Frankland SUTCLIFFE.2
Sutcliffe married Mary Hannah CROFT on 16 February 1907 at St Thomas, Barrowford, Lancashire. He was a Stripper aged 22, a bachelor residing in Barrowford. His father was not listed. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rights and Ceremonies of the Established Church, by Banns. The marriage was witnessed by James CARTLEDGE and Ann CARTLEDGE.3,4

In the census of 30 March 1851 at 3 Chilton Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey, he was listed as aged 3 born Rotherhithe, the son of William ALDERTON.2 In the census of 7 April 1861 at 3 Chilton Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey, he was listed as aged 13 born Rotherhithe, the son of William ALDERTON.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 at 3 Chilton Street, Rotherhithe, Surrey, he was listed as single, a Warehouseman, aged 23 born Rotherhithe, the son of William ALDERTON.4

Stephen Halstead Ashworth was summoned for an assault on Margaret Ashworth, his sister, in Brown-street, on Tuesday, the 28th ult. The defendant stated that she had conducted herself very improperly ; was found in such company as she ought not to have been. —Ordered to pay costs. —The defendant, thinking the magistrate said " You must play cards," said "No Sir, I never played a card in my life."4 In the census of 2 April 1871 at 10 Chalk Street, Burnley, Lancashire, he was listed as single, a Labourer, aged 31 born Burnley, the son of Susannah ASHWORTH.5

Stephen Halstead Ashworth, a tramp, was charged with stealing a mahogany board, from a yard, the property of John Smith, value 14s. It was stolen on Tuesday. The board was found in Ralph Beastings yard, whom prisoner had sold it for Is 5d. Prisoner had Beasting it was honest, and said he had brought it from Cockbridge —P.C. Glancey apprehended prisoner, and on charging him with the offence he said he had brought it from Cock-bridge. —Prisoner had no defence to offer, and he was committed for trial at Preston Sessions.6

Stealing Brass Taps.
Stephen Halstead Ashworth was charged with stealing two brass taps, value 4s., from the Pendle Inn beerhouse. White Lion-street.—John Smith, the landlord of the beerhouee, said he engaged the prisoner on Wednesday to clean the cellar. After the prisoner had come out of the cellar, from what a man had said him with taking a tap, the prisoner had let one fall from his breast. On being charged the prisoner said he had a tap of his own. Witness went into the cellar and found the two taps produced were missing.— C Fiddler took him into custody. On being charged with stealing the taps, he said he did not steal them. The prisoner, who is under police supervision, had nothing to say to the benoh.—Committed for trial.
Charge of Stealing a Wheelbarrow.
Stephen Halstead Ashworth, who had been committed for trial the day before, on a charge of felony, was again placed in the dock on a charge of stealing a wheelbarrow, the property of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Company. It appeared from the evidence of the bank ranger of the company that the wheelbarrow had on it the brand the company, L.L.C.C., but the sides were not such as the company put on. He could only say it was the company's property from the brand. The company never made barrows for any but themselves, and had never known them sell any. The prisoner had been to him and told him he had found the barrow in the river Brunn behind the Well Hall publichouse and said he wanted 2s. 6d. for finding it, or he would sell it. He did sell it to James Dean, marine store dealer, for 2s. 8d., the bank ranger refusing to give him 2s. 6d. for it unless had authority to do so. The prisoner said he had a witness in the Court who saw him get the barrow out of the river. He was not called, however, the Bench thinking the evidence not sufficient to convict the prisoner. Case dismissed.7

Stephen Halstead Ashworth (37). stealing Burnley, on the 29th November, two brass taps, the property of John Smith. Seven years’ penal servitude and seven years* police supervision.8 In the census of 3 April 1881, he was listed as single, a Labourer, aged 53 born Burnley, Lancashire a Prisoner in Wormwood Scrubs, Hammersmith, Middlesex.9

Stephen died on 14 January 1887 at the Victoria Hospital, Burnley, Lancashire.11

Research Note: Fatal Fall from a Roof, Yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon, about 3 o’clock, whilst a man named Stephen Halstead Ashworth, about 40 years of age, of 6 1/2, Park-lane, was engaged in cleaning some troughs on the roof of a house in Craven-terrace, Albion-street, he fell to the ground, sustaining such severe internal injuries that death ensued shortly after six o’clock. The poor fellow was, immediately after the accident, conveyed to the Victoria Hospital. The deceased chiefly followed the employment known as a "knocker-up.”.12

Research Note: Death Through Falling from a Roof
An inquest on the body of Stephen Halstead Ashworth, aged 47, living at Park-lane, was held on Monday at the Victoria Hospital. Deceased was engaged cleaning out the spout of a roof belonging to a house in Craven-place, Fulledge, when he fell the the ground, a distance of some 28ft., and sustained severe internal injuries. A cab was procured, and he was removed at once to the Victoria Hospital, where he was attended to. He remained unconscious, however, until the evening, when he expired. The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death.”.13 Stephen was buried on 19 January 1887 at Cemetery, Burnley, Lancashire.14

     Halstead GREENWOOD was born in 1843 at Langfield, Yorkshire. He was the son of John GREENWOOD and Mary HALSTEAD. In the census of 30 March 1851 at Lumbutts, Langfield, Yorkshire, he was listed as aged 8 born Langfield, the son of John GREENWOOD.1 Halstead GREENWOOD was baptised on 25 March 1856 at Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Lumbutts, Halifax, Yorkshire. In the census of 7 April 1861 at Lumbutts, Langfield, Yorkshire, he was listed as single, a Sizer Cotton, aged 18 bon Langfield, the son of John GREENWOOD.2
