Since Ist January this year, the Institution has voted rewards for saving 252 lives, and during the same period the lifeboats have been launched the aid of tessels in distress on no less than 101 occasions. Payment, amounting to £3.233 were ordered to be made in connection with the lifeboat establishment, of the Institution. Among the contributions recently received were £150 from the Executors of the late Mr. Alfred Beit.£100 from Miss C. The fol lowing is the inscription engraved on the salver :—"Presented by the council and offi cers of the Jewish Lads' Brigade to Ernest M. Hallenstein, Esq., chief staff officer, on the occasion of his marriage, as a mark of the great esteem in which he is held by all, and in appreciation of his devoted and in valuable services to the brigade.—Septem ber, 1908." By the invitation of Lieut. Colonel Hallenstein, 800 lads of the Lon don Regiment were entertained to tea on the following Sunday at Hampstead.6

In the census of 3 April 1881 at 17 Randolph Crescent, Paddington, Middlesex, he was listed as aged 3 months born Paddington, the son of Michaelis HALLENSTEIN.2 In the census of 5 April 1891 at 47 Pembridge Villas, Pembridge Road, Kensington, Middlesex, he was listed as aged 10 born Paddington, the son of Michaelis HALLENSTEIN.3

Research Note: Mr. Harold Hallenstein of London is now staying at Elizabeth Bay, Sydney. He leaves for New Zealand shortly on a visit to his
brother Mr. Emil Hallenstein, prior to voyaging to Hamburg where he is to enter into business.4
Harold married Hilda Helene MICHAELIS before 1907.
Harold died before 1962.

The testatrix was the wife of Percy Halsted, who, with his brother, Emil, of Dunedin, are executors of the estate, which is left on trust for the benefit of the- children and grandchildren.2
