Research Note: It is clear that Mary Ellen was born and died in the same quarter yet she is listeed on the following census in 1861. Without the original schedules we can only assume that Thomas mis-understood. In the census of 7 April 1861 at 2 Gloucester Street, West Derby, Lancashire, she was listed as aged 1 born Liverpool, the daughter of Thomas HALSTEAD.3

In the census of 7 April 1861 at Old Parsonage, Nowton, Suffolk, James was listed as a widower, aged 70 born Nowton, the Head of Household; an Agricultural Labourer, living with his daughter Jane.4
James died on 13 January 1864 at Nowton, Suffolk.5,6 His estate was probated on 3 February 1864 at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The estate was valued at under £200.6

Jane HALSTEAD was born in 1846 at Nowton, Suffolk.1 She was the daughter of James HALSTEAD and Ann PLUME. In the census of 30 March 1851 at Nowton, Suffolk, she was listed as aged 5 born Nowton, the daughter of James HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 7 April 1861 at Old Parsonage, Nowton, Suffolk, she was listed as single, aged 15 born Nowton, the daughter of James HALSTEAD.3 Jane HALSTEAD witnessed the marriage of John CULLUM and Charlotte HOLSTEAD on 30 December 1869 at the Parish Church, Tottenham, Middlesex.4,5
Jane married David STROWLGER in 1870 in the Kingston registration district.6
