In the census of 30 March 1851 at Buck Croft, Colne, Lancashire, Thomas was listed as a widower, aged 42 born Colne, the Head of Household; a Handloom Weaver, living with his sons Robert and John, daugher Ellen, lodger Rachel CHERRY.4
Thomas married Rachel CHERRY on 2 September 1855 at St Bartholomew, Colne, Lancashire. He was a Stretcher aged 47, a widower residing in Colne, His father was listed as Robert HALSTEAD, a Weaver. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England, After Banns. The marriage was witnessed by George CHERRY and Hilda CHERRY.5,6
