Cecil married Lily HALSTEAD, daughter of Thomas HALSTEAD and Mary Ann WOODHEAD, in 1928 in the Halifax registration district.4 In the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939, he was listed as a patient at the The General Hospital, Halifax, Yorkshire. He was married, a Postman, born 6 October 1899.5

Mr. Halstead, who was 40 years of age, had prior to his illness been employed at the Halifax Post Office. He had been an established postman since 1936. The services at the house and the graveside were conducted by the Rev. A. Bilsborough.
The mourners were: Mrs. L. Halstead (widow), Mr. J. E. Halstead (father), Mr. and Mrs. H. Crowther (brother-in-law and sister), Mr. and Mrs. C. Halstead (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs. Taylor (sister), Mrs. Halstead (mother-in-law). Mrs. Culpan (sister-in-law). Mrs. Schofield (sister-in-law). Miss A Halstead (sister-in-law). Mr. Sq. Halstead (brother-in-law). Mr. E. Phillips. Mr. A. Turner. Mr. H. Heys. Mr. H. Priestley. Mr. P. Smith.
The following postmen acted as bearers: Messrs. G. Bake, J. Jagger, J. B. Carter and A. E. Hemblys.
The undertakers were J. E., R. and T. Crowther.8

In the census of 31 March 1901 at 8 Buxton Street, Halifax, Yorkshire, he was listed as aged 7 born Ovenden, the son of Elijah HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 8 Buxton Street, Halifax, Yorkshire, he was listed as single, a Clerk, aged 17 born Halifax, the son of Elijah HALSTEAD.3
Arthur died on 1 August 1917. He is commemorated on the Longuenessee (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France.4,5 His estate was probated on 17 September 1917 at London. The estate was valued at £113 16s 11d.5

Research Note: HEROIC SELF-SACRIFICE
When a soldier dropped a live bomb, Second lieut. Arthur Halstead. M.C., West Riding Regiment, sought to screen the man by getting between him and the bomb. He then tried to kick the bomb away, but it exploded, fatally wounding him. The soldier escaped with slight injuries.6

In the census of 31 March 1901 at 32 Naples Street, Bradford, Yorkshire, he was listed as aged 6 born Bradford, the son of John HALSTEAD.2 In the census of 2 April 1911 at 90 Lytton Road, Bradford, Yorkshire, he was listed as single, an Apprentice Woolsorter, aged 16 born Bradford, the son of John HALSTEAD.3
