In the census of 7 June 1841 at Bridge End, Walsden, Lancashire, he was listed as aged 10 born out of county, the assumed son of Hannah HOLSTEAD.1 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Rohinwood Crescent, Stansfield, Yorkshire, he was listed as single, a Cotton Weigher, aged 20 born Langfield, the brother-in-law of Robert SCHOFIELD.2
Young married Sarah HELLIWELL, daughter of William HELLIWELL and Hannah COCKCROFT, on 8 August 1852 at St Chad, Rochdale, Lancashire. He was a Grinfer aged 21, a bachelor residing in Todmorden.
