     Sykes HALSTEAD was born on 24 September 1869 at Lindwell, Greetland, Yorkshire. Father not listed - mother Elizabeth HALSTEAD - registered on 23 October 1869 by Elizabeth HALSTEAD, mother.1,2 He was the son of Elizabeth HALSTEAD. In the census of 2 April 1871 at Wyke Lane, Wyke, Yorkshire, he was listed as aged 1 born Greetland, in the household of Godfrey KERSHAW, although no relationship was stated.3 In the census of 3 April 1881, he was listed as aged 8 born Wyke, an Inmate in the North Bierley Union Workhouse, Clayton, Yorkshire.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 at 1 Railway Street, Tong, Yorkshire, he was listed as single, a Butter and Egg Assstant, aged 20 born Wyke, a Lodger of Rachael BARRACLOUGH.5
Sykes married Eleanor SHARP on 13 August 1892 at St James, Tong, Yorkshire. He was a Driver aged 22, a bachelor residing at 1 Railway Terrace, Tong Street. His father was listed as David HALSTEAD, a Joiner. After Banns. The married was witnessed by Henry SHARP and Ellen Ann BROADHURST.6,7
In the census of 31 March 1901 at 2 Oday Street, Tong, Yorkshire, Sykes was listed as aged 31 born Wyke, the Head of Household; an Egg & Butter Merchant, living with his wife Eleanor, son Maurice, daughter Ada.8
In the census of 2 April 1911 at 2 Oddy Street, Dudley Hill, Bradford, Yorkshire, Sykes was listed as aged 41 born Wyke, the Head of Household; an Egg & Butter Merchant, living with his wife Eleanor, daughter Ada and son Maurice (marrie 18 years - 2 children - 2 living.)9 He was listed in the 1939Register taken on 29 September 1939 at 16 Headland Street, Liversedge, Yorkshire. He was married, Retired Retail Mixed Business, born 24 September 1869.10
His wife, Eleanor, died in 1941 in the Spen Valley registration district.11
Sykes's death was registered in 1954 in the Bradford registration district.12
