     Appears in a newspaper article on at Whilst trying to track down more information on William I came across an interesting entry on the web.

In the 1851 census William was a pupil in the Gainsburgh House Acadamy in Greenwich. The wife of the household (Frances E SKAIFE) was listed as the schoolmistress. It was her husband who caught my eye being a Thomas SKAIFE, a miniture portrait painter. Now something nagged at the back of my mind so I went looking on the internet for anything on him and whilst I didn't find anything concrete one of those interesting snippets came to light

On the website for pre cinema history there was a note that in 1856 Thomas SKAIFE was arrested for aiming a pistol camera at Queen Victoria. see http://www.precinemahistory.net/1850.htm.

     Her married name was HALSTEAD. Betty SIMPSON Betty is listed in the 1841 census with John and Betty but of course there are no relationships in that census.

In 1851 John and Betty are on their own but in 1861 Betty, with her husband Halstead HALSTEAD, is shown as the daughter of Betty.

Betty would have been about at the time of the birth of Betty but the marriage in 1850 clearly shows that she Betty SIMPSON and her father was Richard.

I wonder if in fact John and Betty were her grandparents.
