Research Note: Whilst trying to track down more information on William I came across an interesting entry on the web.

In the 1851 census William was a pupil in the Gainsburgh House Acadamy in Greenwich. The wife of the household (Frances E SKAIFE) was listed as the schoolmistress. It was her husband who caught my eye being a Thomas SKAIFE, a miniture portrait painter. Now something nagged at the back of my mind so I went looking on the internet for anything on him and whilst I sisn't find anything concrete one of those interesting snippets came to light

On the website for pre cinema history there was a note that in 1856 Thomas SKAIFE was arrested for aiming a pistol camera at Queen Victoria. see http://www.precinemahistory.net/1850.htm.
