The death took place early.on Monday morning last, following an attack of influenza, of Mr. James Barlow, 22, Ann-street, aged 31. He was the organist of the Carr-road Baptist Church, Nelson, and.a music teacher of much promise, His readiness to help at all the services of the church, and his genial manner, won for him the regard of all who knew him. He played the accompaniments at the recent "At Homes," and only on Sunday week officiated at the organ at a memorial service to his cousin. The funeral took place yesterday (Friday).8 His estate was given Letters of Administration on 22 January 1919 at Lancaster, Lancashire, England. The estate was valued at £98 5s 0d.6

The funeral of Mr. William Starkie, 11, Essex Street, Nelson, who passed away on Tuesday week after a lengthy illness at the age of 68 years, took place on Saturday afternoon at the Parish Church, Newchurch-in-Pendle. The Rev. W. M. V. Gregory read prayers in the house, church and graveside. Mr. Starkie was wellknown and highly respected in the district, and is survived by a widow and a grown-up family. The following gentlemen officiated as bearers at the funeral: Arthur Stanworth, Albert Stanworth, Amos Halstead, Wm. Brunton, J. H. Boothman and Mr. Shepherd.
